PINOCCHIO
“Lies, my boy, I can recognize them instantly! Because there are two kinds of lies — lies with short legs and lies with long noses.”Since Carlo Collodi’s story was first published in 1881, the world has changed tremendously. And if we stage this beloved character today, we must adapt him to our own time. That was my first thought when the school’s administration proposed creating a choreography for a dance performance based on this theme, intended for the younger and middle-level students.
We wanted to find our own way of bringing PINOCCHIO to the stage, and thus this adaptation — a story about growing up — was born. Of course, we couldn’t leave out the famous nose that grows longer with every lie — Pinocchio’s most distinctive feature. Constantly drawing inspiration from Collodi’s tale, I created scenes specifically for a ballet school production.
